"Plagiarism is defined in dictionaries as the "wrongful appropriation," "close imitation," or "purloining and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions," and the representation of them as one's own original work". (from Wikipedia)
Philippine Senator has been on the hot seat twice in a row due to plagiarism in his delivered speeches opposing the hot topic RH (Reproduction Health) Bill.
A English degree holder politician and actor has been suspected for copying speech from late US Senator Robert Kennedy and from blog entry of Sarah Pope.
Personally, I wonder why a Senator would copied and delivered the same for his speeches in order to defend his stand on the RH Bill. Shouldn't be a senator must be capable at least of defending his arguments on his own? An educated person just photocopying other ideas and minds is not only a thief but a plain stupid (sorry for the harsh word but I really hate when politicians showcase their stupidity and prove that they have no right to be in their seats).
With all his staffs, he wasn't still able to deliver a good speech. It is okay to copy quotes of speech from different person, with respect of acknowledging the source. But to retort and re-align your speech reference and making the public believe that it is your own idea is another thing.
"The legislature in any society
performs the important function of
deliberating policies for
the people and passing them in the form of
statutes." - Taken from the Senate of the Philippines website
As stated on the quote above, with this responsibility of the Senate, would he still copy other policies and adapt it here in the Philippines? The main problem here is not the plagiarism issue per se, but the capability and competence of the Senator to perform his duties and responsibilities as a member of the Senate.
If a mere speech cannot be delivered outright then how can he be a SENATOR? Once can be forgiven, but twice? You are making me laugh. If I will be the Senate President, I will send a motion for the removal from his office of this incompetent Senator. He is just wasting the taxpayer's money.
